- Inspect and repair. It’s a fact- no buyer wants to purchase a home that has many deferred maintenance items – unless it’s for a rock bottom price! If you are thinking of selling your home in 2017, it’s important to fix any outstanding repair items before you put it on the market. Take a good look around your house and be honest with yourself – what items need repaired? This can include small items like broken window blinds or screens; to larger items like outdated electrical. Make a list and tackle as many of these projects as you can over the cold Winter months.
- Freshen your paint colors and remove the wallpaper! Current décor adds value to a home. Right now, gray and taupe are very popular paint colors. White trim and 6 panel doors are also a relatively inexpensive update that buyers love. Is there a room in your home that could use an update? A can of paint costs $25 and can be transformational!
- Update your kitchen and/or bathrooms. If your home was built before the late 90’s to early 2000’s and has not had the kitchen and baths redone- they are most likely outdated. If your home falls into this category, it might be time to consider a remodel – homes with updated kitchens and bathrooms sell faster and for more money. You may be also be surprised at the affordability that stores such as Menard’s, Lowe’s and Home Depot offer.
- De-clutter and donate! This is such a great time of year to de-clutter your living space and to be able to donate it to great causes. In Richland County, Harmony House is in need of furniture and toys. If you have been in your home for over 10 years, I know this can be one of the most overwhelming tasks. Take it room by room, and before you know it you will be able to see real improvements!
